Hardware River

This family wanted a main residence and guest house on their gorgeous southern Albemarle wooded property. The lady of the house took a great interest in the project and was seen digging footings, painting, as well as taking care of `her crew'. What fun she had in creating a home and nest for her family in such an intimate way.

The design solution placed various sized simple house shapes with flat roofs covering the spaces between them. This created interesting and varied spaces inside and out. The terrace with outdoor fireplace is built on and around natural rock outcroppings. Adjacent to the terrace and smack up against the house is a fish pond with small waterfall. The guest house borrowed many details from the main house `parent'.
